About the Institute.
Founded in 1964, the IDHEE is still the only professional awarding body solely dedicated to the Domestic Heating Engineer.
Membership is available to persons involved in all aspects of the heating industry, from students who are studying for qualifications, through all levels of installation, design and specification of domestic heating systems, to consulting engineers.
There are also grades of membership for technical sales engineers and domestic energy assessors.
Global warming.
Even if global warming were not a problem it still makes good economic sense to ensure that our heating systems provide comfort at the lowest possible cost.
This means having boilers and radiators (or underfloor pipes) that are not grossly oversized, and are properly controlled to the latest energy efficiency standards. But before having a new installation, or even just a new boiler, make sure the dwelling is insulated as well as it possibly can be. The boiler and radiators will be a lot smaller and hence burn a lot less fuel.

About the membership.
Membership, which provides the opportunity to display a professional designation such as AMIDHEE, is available to all those able to demonstrate knowledge of, and/or experience in, heating design and installation.
These requirements can be demonstrated through proven experience, or by success in the courses and examinations provided by the Institute. Certain certificates awarded by other educational bodies may be accepted.
So when choosing an installer for work on a central heating and hot water system, it makes sense to employ a qualified engineer.
